The Grounds Committee overseas the landscape planning and design of the community's common areas. They receive contractor bids, analyze them, and then recommend to the Board the contractor who will be doing the maintenance and planting within the community. They look at all common areas of the community including the tot lots and make recommendations to the Board.
For your information, here is a brief summary of what our grounds contractor is required to do:
- Mow all common areas and trim around all building, trees and other obstacles.
- Remove all debris from lawn areas PRIOR to mowing.
- Clear sidewalks and curbs of all clippings.
- Edge all sidewalks and curbs EVERY OTHER MOWING.
- Remove all dirt and debris resulting from edging.
- Fertilize three times a year in the fall and winter.
- Apply crabgrass pre-emergent control twice in spring.
- Apply broadleaf weed control in April and October.
- Rake thin and bare areas and seed in fall.
- Aerate turf in fall.
- Apply grass and weed control to sidewalks and curbs as needed.
Please consider adopting the common area near your home. When the hot summer comes, the only way to insure we do not lose valuable grass, trees and shrubs is if you take care of them. You are the one that gains the enjoyment of the common area near your house, so please help out by watering those trees and shrubs! The small investment will be well worth it to you, your neighbors and the community.
The Grounds Committee meets the first Thursday of every month at the clubhouse at 7:00 PM. We have lots of projects we would like to pursue. The committee is growing, but the only way we can get everything done is if you help out.
If you would like to volunteer for this committee, please give your name, address, phone number and email address to Cat Follin, our community manager. You may reach her via email or phone 703-339-6987.
