Pet Policy
Island Creek’s community manager regularly receives reports about pet problems relating to owners not cleaning up after their dogs, dogs off leash and dogs barking. In an effort to keep residents informed of the existing pet policy and to help residents enforce the policy, the regulations covering pets are listed here.Pet owners are responsible for the immediate removal and proper disposal of animal waste on all portions of the common areas. Please bring a pooper scooper or plastic bag to pick up the droppings so you can dispose of them properly. If you observe someone not cleaning up after their pet, please try to determine where they live. A violation letter will be sent to the resident. The best results are from a violation letter rather than a general flyer sent to the entire neighborhood. All calls are kept confidential.
Pets are not permitted to be off leash when not in a
fenced yard. Pets are only permitted on common
areas if they carried or on a leash. There are
numerous dog parks in Springfield and Alexandria
where it is safe for dogs to run off leashes. The
closest to Island Creek is the South Run Community
Center. If you see a pet off leash,
please find out where the pet lives and contact the
community manager. A violation letter will be sent.
Again, all calls are kept confidential.
